Once you've set up one blog, you tend to catch bloggeritis and want to set up more. JorgenSundberg.net is my third and hopefully final site for a long time and this post will cover the reasons why this blog was set up and what readers can expect from the blog.
I always wanted a blog/site with my own name. When I researched it a couple of years ago, I saw that jorgensundberg.com was taken and the owner had no intention of giving it up even for a modest sum of cash (alright, a very modest but still). I knocked the idea on the head and went about setting up other sites. After becoming more involved in personal branding and actually consulting others on it, I realized I need to practice my preachings of having a personal site or blog. In order to keep my credibility as a personal branding consultant, it just had to be done.
What to name it?
As the obvious choice of .com was gone, I had a few different options. I had the option of hyphenating it with the .com at the end (jorgen-sundberg.com) or simply pick another suffix (.co.uk, .me, .net). As I can’t really do the dash (not pleasing on my eye), it had to be .net. For more on the trials and tribulations I went through, see this post over at Ryan Rancatore’s excellent blog Personal Branding 101. Interestingly enough, the poll over there strongly recommended the hyphenated option. I believe this is because a .com is the default Internet suffix and what people try first when typing in a URL. Some say it’s better for SEO, I am not so sure about that.
What’s the purpose of this blog?
I have a couple of other sites that are niched: Personal Branding UK (mainly for events in London) and The Undercover Recruiter (a blog about my previous day job!). These two sites work really well for their target groups but I have sometimes felt the need to go a bit outside of these topics when writing posts, off-piste as it were. Plus this blog is eponymous and is already the first search result on Google when typing in my name. So in a nutshell, this blog allows me to write whatever I feel like and it helps promoting personal brand on a daily basis.
What topics will I cover?
Not looking to get millions of readers by revealing celebrity gossip or dieting tips, instead I intend I cover topics that I am interested in. I read a lot, both other blogs and other material, and get a lot of inspiration from others. Currently, this blog will focus on Personal Branding, Social Media, Networking and Blogging. As the blog carries my name I have the luxury to change that at any time without there being a discord between blog name and content.
Big shouts going out?
Sure, big thanks to Sophie Anderson for yet another cracking design and Matthew Leigh for invaluable Drupal assistance!
