Our friend Vincenzo Cosenza likes to create nice infographics about social networks. He recently published an update to his world mape of social networks June 2011. It makes for interesting reading to compare this to the state of the social networking world back in June 2009 as per the image below.
The most significant trend is of course the spread of Facebook into places like Mexico, India and above all Mongolia. Facebook is now number one in 119 out of 134 countries that Vincenzo had a look at. Facebook has even done well in countries with harsh state censorship such as Iran and Syria.

Here are the number one to three networks in selected countries of interest. Trends of note here are that Twitter are on the warpath in France, Germany, Canada and the US. LinkedIn are doing well also in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US.

Are you now wondering how on earth he gets these facts? It's actually pretty simple, just go to Alexa and hit up the country you are interested in. Alexa will tell you what the most frequented websites are in that particular country. You filter out the news, porn and gaming sites and end up with the social networks – very simples!
What are your predictions for the next developments in the world of social networking? Other than Facebook gaining more and more market share that is of course…
